Happy Chinese National Day! guó qìng jié kuài lè (国庆节快乐)

October 1, 2009. Today is the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. China’s Birthday so to speak.

Of course it is also right after 3rd quarter close which means that Jeff as to work while 80% (or more) of China is not working. I am sitting up at his office typing right now. I am also grading some student projects, but I guess you can say I am taking a quick break from all that.

It is such an awesome experience to be in China. Jeff and I ate at Chamate today. It is a Taiwanese restaurant with good Asian food. We sipped one of the most famous green teas and ate beef noodle bowls and some jiao zi (pork dumplings). I think one of the things I will miss most in China is the food. Not only that, but the people.

Also today, I had to go to the Textile Market and have some sheets redone for our bed. Since it is a holiday, many of the shop owners had their children at the shops. At the sheet place, Yi Jing Su had her daughter who is 8 years old and a real cutie. I asked if she wanted to trade her for one of my 3 boys, her pick. Her daughter did not look the least bit interested in me as her new mom and even coming to American where there are Mc Donald’s and KFCs on almost every major street corner. It is fun messing around with the Chinese people, they have a great sense of humor. It also helps out my Chinese to talk such things and try to poke fun. I feel so fortunate my Chinese is getting better so I can have fun with the language like this!
